Antioxidants play a crucial role in protecting cells from oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby mitigating the risk of aging-related diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders. Understanding the chemical mechanisms underlying antioxidant action is essential for elucidating their potential therapeutic benefits and optimizing their use for disease prevention. the chemical mechanisms of antioxidant action, focusing on their ability to neutralize ROS and prevent oxidative damage to biomolecules such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. Antioxidants act through a variety of mechanisms, including scavenging free radicals, chelating metal ions, inhibiting lipid peroxidation, and upregulating endogenous antioxidant defences.
